Opportunity! Crisis! More on Leo Burnett Lisbon

Posted in Global Outlook by Ryan Thomas on April 23, 2009

Two days ago I wrote about a tool from Leo Burnett Lisbon. Today a talented mind at Poke in NYC called me on my shit.

No I had not actually installed it. It was a great branding exercise but when Poke talks about creating simple clear single ideas – they comes from a place of consumer understanding. There is a reason Tom is asking.

We are inherently distrustful of installing or committing to things on the Internet. Make it load fast, make it zero commitment, and make it worth my time.

In short here is my quick review of Leo Burnett’s Opportunity App:

That is the previous post I had written on the app as seen through the eyes of Leo Burnett. It’s charming, it makes the point.

And here is the Wikipedia page for Crisis:

There you go you’ve seen it. So I’ll save you the downside to this whole process.

I’m a passive participant in it. That was it nothing more I can do with it. Now I have to uninstall it. This all could have been achieved much more simply with in browser technology.

Head over to Made with Computers and check out the post on Markkit. The click to test feature is fantastic. Leo could have taken this as an opportunity to make their homepage the portal to opportunity on the web.

Viewing the web through a Leo portial site would have really driven the point home. Instead my browsing experence is slower and I have to remember where the uninstall feature is on Firefox.

Thanks Tom.

The Old Hat Issue: Awards and Digital Shops

Posted in Make Friends, Win Awards by Ryan Thomas on March 23, 2009

How much does your digital specialist shop do for you? Do they deserve equal billing when the awards start rolling in?

Seems Poke was credited as a production company on the Million project (Droga5). Poke just showed us how helpful it could be recently with snckrz, and being masters of online community building, raised issue with the production credit in a very low key way:

Via AgencySpy:

“It was a true partnership where POKE worked hand in hand with the fine folks at Droga to create a comprehensive digital and mobile strategy along with a full-term roll-out plan on how to take Million to the world.

There really needs to be a way to ensure everyone leaves happy from these exchanges. Do we need prenups like all the big stars?

I have always found that finding the digital shop behind a peice of work is the hardest task in crediting work that appears here. I think it’s time that should change.

Poke’s prank generates 40,000 Snickers logos in 6 days.

Posted in Make Friends, Method to the Madness by Ryan Thomas on March 10, 2009

Tom Ajello’s works for Poke. Tom Ajello also loves social media.

Imagine my surprise when I got in this evening and found a comment on my blog regarding the make your own snickers logo website.

All the comment said was:

“It was fun”

I figured this was some kind of bizarre spam bot that happened to hit on a phrase I was likely to approve until I followed the link to Tom’s blog.

Tucked away on his side bar was his latest twitter update:

Wow. has rendered 40,000 Snickers Logos since we launched 6 days ago. Weeeeee! Go make yours. 🙂

March is now to be known as “Overstepping your bounds month”

First Happy Corp. incurs the wrath of MoMA, bloggers and the graffiti community in one poster-boy swoop.

Seems digital shop Poke decided to have a little fun. I don’t know about you but though fun is fun, messing with my agency’s cilents would make me a little nervous.
